There are many approaches including self-help, outpatient or inpatient treatment, and private counseling with a therapist. Finding the right setting or therapist you like and trust plays a significant role in your success. Interviewing agencies and therapists is helpful so that you learn about the different approaches to addiction treatment since it is not a one size fits all solution.

Substance abuse is one way to cope with stress but it may reduce productivity and reliability. Early signs of stress are insomnia, irritability, sadness, and intestinal problems. Waiting to get help and address the stress and substance abuse enables the addiction to progress and puts strain on those close to the substance abuser.
