Nadya Petkova, CMHS, LMHC
I work with individuals, couples and families. I am also a Child Mental Health Specialist, having made children ages 2 to 18, the focus of my practice. My approach, drawing from several theoretical orientations, is client-centered, based on the theory that every individual brings a unique personal, family and cultural experience. I have a Cognitive Behavioral Theoretical Orientation, as well as Existential and Family Systems Theory. I also practice Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, and find art to be a very powerful tool for exploring client’s emotional experience.
My education includes an MA in Child Psychology from New Bulgarian University, Sofia, Bulgaria, and a second MA in Psychology from Antioch University, Seattle, Washington.
I have been working with children and adolescents for ten years and am especially interested in attachment dysfunction and methods of child and parent focused resolution. I have also developed a specialty in treating psychological issues relating to immigrant/refugee and first generation coping skills.
