Eastside Addiction Professionals is a full scope counseling and treatment practice for all members of the family as well as the substance abusing loved one. Addiction counseling is one element of our practice along with marriage and couples counseling, psychotherapy and group therapy. Counseling is confidential and discreet to aid in healing the painful effects of compulsive behaviors and mental health issues.

The way a person interprets, perceives and makes sense of problems varies. Individual past experiences, levels of conflict with others and who the loved one is whether a child, parent or spouse, all impact the help sought to create well-being and encourage healthy functioning. At the point that a crisis has occurred it becomes clear that getting help is necessary.

The first step in preparing yourself and your loved ones for recovery is to learn about counseling approaches. There are many approaches including self-help, outpatient or inpatient treatment, and private counseling with a therapist. Finding the right setting or therapist you like and trust plays a significant role in your success. Interviewing agencies and therapists is helpful so that you learn about the different approaches to addiction treatment since it is not a one size fits all solution.

There are many things that influence your decision to get help for yourself or your family and stressful events is one of them. Substance abuse is one way to cope with stress but it may reduce productivity and reliability. Early signs of stress are insomnia, irritability, sadness, and intestinal problems. Waiting to get help and address the stress and substance abuse enables the addiction to progress and puts strain on those close to the substance abuser. When things begin to get worse families sometimes begin to isolate themselves setting up a spiral for things to get even more difficult. It is important to expand the support system for the family and the addicted loved one. Looking for help for you or a loved one is a signal that you are ready to make changes.
